Volkswagen Tiguan came in with random misfires across multiple cylinders and an oil-consumption issue accompanied by heavy exhaust smoke during idling.

Following a detailed inspection, we found a faulty PCV valve and confirmed that the exhaust valve stem seals are leaking oil into the cylinders. This oil intrusion is causing the misfires and the excessive smoke after the vehicle idles for a period of time.

This time, it’s a hot one. A customer brought in their car for a coolant leak, and after a pressure test, it was discovered that the leak was coming from the cylinder head to the coolant bubble adapter breather assembly/hose.

The old unit exhibited complete degradation of the plastic and O-ring, to the extent that the plastic adaptor split in two. After cleaning the bore, the new unit was installed, and a pressure test was performed to ensure there were no other leaks in the coolant system followed by a vacuum coolant bleed.

Golf GTI was brought in due to a broken ball socket mount for the rear hatch. The nut, which was tack welded from the inside to secure the ball socket, had failed and snapped off.

To address this issue effectively, a robust solution was implemented by drilling out the hole and installing a rivnut. This alternative fix proved to be the best option and likely stronger than the originally used nut.

A faulty board was diagnosed as the cause of some unusual issues, which led to the discovery of a blown 10R0 resistor that was causing a short.

In this case, replacing the faulty resistor with a new one resolved the issue.

Audi TT intermittent rough idle issue.

In this particular case, after scanning the car and replacing the failing N249 & N75 valves and a bad breather hose, the idle issue persisted.

A smoke test and a turbo system leak down test were conducted, but no negative results were found. After some logging and checking other components that might be related, it was determined that the issue was not related to the turbo or boost, but rather a vacuum problem.

Further investigation revealed that the recently installed PCV valve from another garage had failed. It was discovered that the PCV valve had been replaced with a generic low-cost branded unit during previous work on the car for oil leaks.

Peugeot RCZ in for a coolant leak. The leak was determined to be from the thermostat housing after a coolant pressure test was performed. A pressure test was also performed after installation of the new thermostat housing and vacuum fill to ensure a proper running coolant system.

Additionally, the driver side inner cv boot was replaced due to a tear.

Customer brought in their Golf with multiple issues related to engine performance, including rough engine running & loss of power. One of our diagnosis revealed that the wires going to all the exhaust camshaft solenoids were shorting out. Interestingly, the protective sheathing on that section of the wiring harness had disintegrated for some unknown reason. A proper wiring replacement was done to fix this issue.

The customer was previously advised not to change the transmission fluid by another garage despite it being dark and overdue for a service by about 20,000 kilometers only, as the claim was that the darkness is from a failing transmission / clutch’s. We somewhat disagree with this notion.

The recommendation given would have eventually led to the deterioration of the transmission and not because of the clutches going bad, but because the fluid would not have been replaced in time and as time passes, old transmission fluid becomes less effective, so it is important to replace it regularly.
